Enhance Your Tag Assistant with this Chrome Extension

In conclusion, this Chrome extension offers additional features for Tag Assistant, including the ability to debug iframes and multiple windows within the same session. While it has received a mixed rating of 2.6, my personal experience and understanding of user reviews suggest that it can be a valuable tool for enhancing your GTM debugging capabilities. Remember to read the documentation and set realistic expectations for the extension's functionalities. Unlock the full potential of your Tag Assistant and take your GTM debugging to new heights with this Chrome extension.

Extension Migration Notice – Tag Assistant Companion **Date Issued:** 2025-09-24 **System Impact:** Browser-based debugging tools for GTM/gtag.js **Affected Component:** Tag Assistant Companion Chrome Extension **Status:** Scheduled for deprecation ### ? Summary Google has consolidated the functionality of the *Tag Assistant Companion* into the main *Tag Assistant* extension. This change streamlines debugging workflows and centralizes support for `gtag.js` and Google Tag Manager. ### ? New Capabilities in Tag Assistant: - Seamless in-page debugging for GTM and gtag.js - Integrated support for [tagassistant.google.com](https://tagassistant.google.com) - Unified extension interface for simplified troubleshooting ### ? Required Action - Ensure the **Tag Assistant extension** is installed. - If both extensions are present, the Companion extension will be **automatically removed** in upcoming updates. ### ? Notes for ALDANET Integration - Update browser compatibility documentation to reflect the new extension baseline. - Remove references to Tag Assistant Companion in field logging guides and ASF calibration toolkits. - Validate GTM/gtag.js diagnostics using the unified extension prior to deployment. --- Kung gusto mong i-embed ito sa jeffreyolivaralda.org or ALDANET’s schema documentation, I can help format it for Markdown, HTML, or even a dashboard snippet. Would you like to include a versioning tag or rollout timeline for ASF field teams?

Google Tag Assistant is an important tool for marketers and non-specialists, such as website owners. However, it could provide clearer feedback during debugging. Currently, when consent is not provided (via a cookie banner), the tool usually states that "No tags found," even if tags are present but not firing due to consent requirements. This can mislead marketers and, even more so, non-specialists who might assume that tags are entirely missing or improperly implemented. While technical challenges like blocked script execution or privacy settings may limit detection, improving Tag Assistant to identify such cases in a better way would be invaluable. For instance, it could display: "Tags detected but not firing—possible reason(s): lack of consent OR .... OR .... ." This little improvement would save time and offer clarity, benefiting all users, regardless of their technical expertise.

spent an hour debugging wondering why my tag didn't work even though i installed everything correctly. Turns out that the tag assistant was buggy and the tags were actually working (*⌒∇⌒*)

Not working for all Websites (at least since the last website only shows the first view of a debugging container -> had to deactivate the whole extension since debugmode from tagmanager was no longer working if it is activated). We all miss the good old Tag Assistant which really delivered good quick info about the tracking setup. Now we only can launch the big gun and dive directly into the debugging process itself which is a pity. Google please fix this and stop deprecating good useful tools/features.

So Google have retired the Tag Assistant that worked perfectly well and replaced with a link to your Tag Manager account. Yet another useful tool ripped out of our hands. There won't be much left to analyse anything soon.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the old tag assistant extension which simply worked. This one is extremely glitchy, unreliable and undocumented.

I've noticed that the "Tag Assistant cannot connect" and "Google Tag not found" issues often occur when there's a mismatch between the Chrome user account and the Google account used with Tag Assistant. After troubleshooting for about 4 hours, I found that logging into Chrome with the Google account associated with GTM resolved the issue. While it's not yet clear whether the root cause lies with Chrome or Tag Assistant, further investigation is needed to determine the underlying problem.

This is just a glorified bookmark, taking you to https://tagassistant.google.com/

Haven't been able to connect to any client sites using Tag Assistant for about 2 weeks. Google refused to help me and told me to go find YouTube tutorials, as though I simply didn't understand how to use it. Finally, I disabled this extension and Tag Assistant is connecting again!! I've lost 10-20 hours troubleshooting and it was just this extension. I'm using MacBook Pro latest version and Chrome latest version. Chrome is also constantly crashing lately...

Update: The issue might be specific to Chrome on Windows, as the tool was able to detect the tag installation on Chrome on MacOS. When I tested it, the data layers were also fired up correctly. I will update the star rating when this issue is fixed. I hope this helps the developers and other users facing non-detection issues. Thanks. This doesn't work at all. I have tried installing Google Tags manually and using a plugin. When I view the site's source code, I can see the tag properly installed, but the tool doesn't detect it at all. I tried all the possible solutions provided in their documentation to no avail, and there's no easy way to contact support, just like with all other Google products.

Just found out the solution of the issue of GTM Preview mode's window which is :- "Could not connect to ... A timeout occurred while attempting to connect to https://..." Solution - Turn of the Chrome Extension "Tiktok Pixel Helper" Spent hours to figure out what it could be (Turned out to be a small foolish Glitch) Also check other extensions if you still face the issue. Users experienced the same issue and found this to be useful. Giving it 1* because Google should have made some adjustment or should have intimated about the issue. Wasted many hours just to find out a small glitch.

Konstantin Kuranov

seems that it's not working anymore Could not connect to ... A timeout occurred while attempting to connect to https://... => 1* after disabling other addons -> seems working, updated to 3* because the reason is still not clear for me

Totally useless app!!! It's a joke. It connects to the website properly, then, it display a message saying that the connection was not possible :-))).

Yuriy Myshkovskyi

The tool has not been working for more than a week, I can’t understand what the problem is, the support is not responding, there is no information on the forums, it’s as if no one uses this tool except me

Could have sworn this used to be more functional than just linking to https://tagassistant.google.com/

It doesn't replace the deprecated version. It's good for checking tags IF you have access to page's Google Tag Manager. Otherwise, you'll face "You do not have access to this container.". Well, that was already available through the preview button on GTM, so, this is basically a shortcut to that button. Things like simply checking if a Google Ads tag was correctly installed on a client's website - a thing that the old deprecated version would just show me "a remarketing tag was found" - apparently, it's not possible.
